SeerBI Sets Sail for Maritime Glory with Net Zero ML Project

Middlesbrough-based SeerBI says the Net Zero Industry Innovation Campus run by Teesside University, and funded by the European Regional Development Fund, aims to support Tees Valley SMEs to develop net zero capabilities and opportunities.

Promised land ahoy! SeerBI has teamed with Teesside University for a project to develop machine learning (ML) solutions to tackle emissions within the maritime sector.

Middlesbrough-based SeerBI says the Net Zero Industry Innovation Campus (NZIIC) run by Teesside University, and funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), aims to support Tees Valley SMEs to develop net zero capabilities and opportunities.

Owain Brennan, Founder and Managing Director of SeerBI, explains: “The value of ML and analytic capabilities have already been well researched and applied in manufacturing and many engineering disciplines, but it is maritime’s turn to take the stage.”

The idea is to create solutions that can decrease the harmful CO2 emissions put out by ports worldwide through analysis methods along with prediction and prevention technology. The solutions will be in line with the UK government’s Maritime 2050 strategy to promote clean maritime growth.

SeerBI focuses on the transport sector, specifically maritime. Its services range from data visualisation to ML and AI development for maritime operators. After founding in October 2021, the tech firm says it is now working with Northeast-based maritime operators and partnering with companies including NVIDIA via their inception programme.

The project will be achieved via a research collaboration between the team at SeerBI and academics & researchers at Teesside University working with industry data.

SeerBI points out that the project will work with UK maritime stakeholders to test and develop the research as it progresses. The company will then seek external funding to take the project forward from the research into a real-world application to be applied in ports around the globe.

In March, SeerBI featured in eWeek UK’s ‘Seven Tech Companies in North East England to Watch’.
