CGI Bags £95m Tech Revamp Deal with Home Office

Five-year contract is with the Home Office’s Police & Public Protection Technology portfolio.

IT and business consulting services firm CGI has secured a lengthy deal with the Home Office’s Police & Public Protection Technology (PPPT) portfolio.

The news has just been revealed, but the five-year contract began on 21 June 2022 and is valued initially at £95 million.

According to Montreal-headquartered CGI, it will be the Strategic Delivery Partner and its technology solutions will support the Home Office’s digital transformation agenda.

CGI says it will create an ecosystem of partners which include NTT DATA, Principle One and Infoshare as well as other SMEs and law enforcement specialists.

The company will also work with UK SMEs by supporting them with an anticipated 30% of the expenditure over the lifetime of the contract.

There aren’t that many details about the contract, but it comes amidst some healthy financial results for CGI.

In its third quarter fiscal 2022 results, CGI revealed a revenue of CAD 3.26 billion (£2 billion), up 7.9% year-over-year or 11.5% year-over-year in constant currency; and an adjusted EBIT of CAD 519.9 million (£334 million), up 9% year-over-year.

In terms of the UK, and in other news this month, CGI signed an agreement to work with SpeQtral, a firm working in quantum technologies, to jointly develop cybersecurity approaches for communications technology based on quantum key distribution.

Also in July, CGI announced the launch of a programme to partner with UK-based SMEs as part of its newly formed “nature-based ecosystem”. It’s a very common pursuit in the UK as firms look to profit from being seen to be green.

The programme seeks organisations with digital solutions demonstrated to help protect the environment. Through the initiative, CGI will identify, create and launch solutions that address national environmental challenges and support net-zero goals.

Founded in 1976, CGI has 84,000 consultants and staff across the globe.

Its services include systems integration, managed IT and business process services and intellectual property solutions.
